About Me

I prefer to talk about the present, but the past also has its importance. It is a source of teaching and experience.

Since a young age, the possibility of drawing objects according my way has always been pleasant. But they were simple things, usually without great creative outbursts that characterized an early exceptionally.

I have a grateful memory of the first watercolor case, the oil paints, and the first canvas I painted. I also remember the books on art at the  Curitiba City’s Public Library from which I was a regular.

I followed the military career, starting as a cadet. In sequence, I lived in several cities in Brazil, in the Amazon Region, in the Center and the South Region of the country. I painted some canvases occasionally in varied styles.

More recently, now retired, I decided to dedicate myself to art persistently. I like to read about art and related subjects. I am interested in psychology, specifically the psychology of communication and perception, the behavior of social groups, and so on.

I am a self-taught artist, I was born in the city of Curitiba, in 1949, state of Paraná, in the south of Brazil, where is my studio is located.

Creative Insight

The ideas come from the surrounding scenarios. They come from the past facts of history and my imagination about the future. Thoughts that I try to synthesize, translate into images, and transpose to the support. They come intuitively, usually in moments of loneliness and recollection, and in continuity, I make a rational selection of the images which would represent on the canvas..

I see philosophies as relative truths. It all depends on the point of view from which we observe. Although paradoxical, I often try to represent these different visions, from the times, in the piece of art. They are attempts to interpret, from timeless points of view, in the aspects of the rendering technique, composition and emotion. It’s an expression of how I see the world, think, feel and interpret the facts. It is a constant and endless search for novelty synthesis in art.

I usually start painting traditionally: working in “grisaille” (monochrome tone), earthy colors, with broad brushstrokes, and setting some light and shadows. On this monochrome painting I add the layers of colors. I often use Venetian-style textures, or the Flemish technique to work the details. In the end, I add slight impastos.

Occasionally I like to experiment in art: it’s a paradigm break, an escape from my artistic consistency. I consider valid to try different media, digital art, video, collage and so on.

It is hard to talk about influences, but there is a certain romanticism, perhaps a little utopia.

This is a summary of what i think about art and inspiration.
